Frequently Asked Questions about SADTEM Instrument Transformers

Rexel Utility distributes SADTEM’s medium-voltage range in Canada: combined current-and-voltage transformers (KYE24), indoor switchgear-mounted CTs and VTs (CK15, SW54, RY6A, RV15), and outdoor stand-alone or assembled units (OKY, OCF36, VE9). All cover 15kV through 35kV for metering and protection, with regional specialists supporting ratio and burden selection.

A current transformer (CT) steps high primary current down to a standard secondary, typically 5A or 1A, for metering and protective relays. A voltage transformer (VT, or PT) steps line voltage down to a standard secondary such as 120V. SADTEM builds both across 15kV, 25kV, and 35kV classes for utility metering and protection.

SADTEM builds revenue-grade metering transformers and protection-class CTs and VTs, so the same line covers the meter and the relay. Metering units deliver tight accuracy at rated burden, while protection units hold accuracy through fault currents. Send your accuracy class, burden, and ratio to a Rexel specialist for the correct unit.

Yes. SADTEM offers switchgear-mounted CTs and VTs for indoor installation and stand-alone or fully assembled units for outdoor use, including pad-mounted and overhead assemblies. Rexel can supply a bare transformer for switchgear integration or a complete ready-to-install outdoor assembly designed to your configuration.

SADTEM has manufactured medium-voltage instrument transformers for the global market for over 80 years, built to the IEC and applicable accuracy-class requirements for utility metering and protection. Rexel Utility’s regional specialists can confirm standards compliance and approval status for specific provincial utilities and support spec submissions for tendering.
