Built to Perform. Engineered to Last.

Over 7 million PUPI fiberglass crossarms are in service across North America, with no documented environmental degradation failures since 1990. Engineered for 60+ year design life, SunGUARD® UV protection, and TorqueGUARD™ bushing technology — PUPI composites are built for the long-term reliability utility infrastructure demands.

The Operational Cost of Aging Infrastructure

Wood splits, rots, and attracts woodpeckers. Steel rusts and fatigues. Traditional utility materials were never designed for decades of uninterrupted service. For Canadian utilities managing harsh winters, intense UV, and aging infrastructure, the maintenance cycle never ends—and every failure means emergency truck rolls, unplanned outages, and budget overruns.

Key pain points:

Material degradation icon

Material degradation: Wood crossarms rarely deliver their projected lifespan. Rot, UV damage, and wildlife compromise structural integrity years ahead of schedule.

Rising maintenance costs icon

Rising maintenance costs: Routine inspection cycles, emergency replacements, and unplanned truck rolls erode operating budgets.

Inconsistent quality cost icon

Inconsistent quality: Wood is a natural material—knots, imperfections, and species variability mean unpredictable strength from one crossarm to the next.

Cascading failure risk icon

Cascading failure risk: A degraded crossarm stresses the pole, hardware, and conductor. One failing component accelerates wear on everything connected to it.

Composite Systems Built for Utility Infrastructure

PUPI designs and manufactures fiberglass-reinforced polymer utility products engineered for the lifecycle requirements of overhead distribution and transmission systems. Since creating the first commercially successful composite crossarm in 1990, PUPI has earned market leadership through relentless investment in technology, engineering, and customer service.

Every PUPI product is manufactured using a fiberglass pultrusion process that creates consistent, predictable strength—free from the knots and imperfections that plague wood. Products are completely filled with closed-cell polyurethane foam to lock out moisture and contaminants, thermally bonded with SunGUARD® UV coating, and reinforced with TorqueGUARD™ internal bushings that withstand over 450 ft-lbs of bolt-tightening torque.

Why Utilities Choose PUPI

60+ year proven service life icon

60+ Year Proven Service Life

SunGUARD® UV coating is thermally bonded to the surface of every PUPI product and has been rigorously tested to maintain effectiveness for at least 60 years in any climate. Closed-cell foam fill locks out moisture. The result: crossarms that don’t rot, rust, split, or degrade. This includes performance across Canadian operating conditions: extreme cold, freeze-thaw cycling, coastal salt exposure, and intense UV at northern latitudes. PUPI crossarms are deployed across every Canadian climate zone with the same dependable record.

Lightweight strength icon

Strength Without the Weight

PUPI tangent crossarms weigh significantly less than wood—with up to six times the strength. One fiberglass crossarm can replace two wood crossarms. Lighter materials mean faster installs, smaller crews, and easier access to remote sites.

Designed for Long-Term Reliability

TorqueGUARD™ bushings withstand over 450 ft-lbs of bolt-tightening torque. Closed-cell foam blocks moisture ingress. Non-conductive fiberglass reduces flashover risk at the crossarm. Inspection follows the same routine cycle as wood, without the progressive degradation that drives replacement decisions.

Available Across Canada Through Rexel Utility

Rexel Utility is the exclusive Canadian distributor for PUPI fiberglass composite products. As a division of Rexel Canada Electrical, Rexel Utility serves investor-owned utilities, public power municipalities, rural electrification associations, and utility contractors from coast to coast.

With dedicated branches in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Atlantic Canada, Rexel Utility provides local inventory access, technical support, and application engineering for every PUPI product in the distribution and transmission lineup.

Wesco Utility Canada’s utility distribution business was acquired by Rexel in February 2021. All Canadian PUPI sales, support, and quoting are handled through Rexel Utility. Wesco Utility Canada is no longer an active PUPI channel in this market.

A Complete Composite System

Distribution

PUPI fiberglass tangent crossarm installed on wood utility pole

Tangent Crossarms

The core of PUPI’s offering. Standard distribution crossarms available in centermount, braced, and alley arm configurations. RUS-accepted patterns and custom drill specifications.

PUPI fiberglass deadend assembly on distribution pole

Deadend Assemblies

High-strength assemblies for line termination and angle applications. Delivered fully assembled and ready to install.

PUPI galvanized steel mounts and fiberglass X-brace system

Mounts & Braces

Galvanized steel mounts and fiberglass X-Brace systems with SunGUARD® coating. Standard and heavy duty options.

Transmission applications carry the same engineering discipline forward. The PUPI Series 5000 transmission crossarm is a one-to-one dimensional replacement for wood with twice the strength and equal stiffness at significantly lower weight, allowing utilities to use existing hardware and installation practices on TH-10 V4 and similar configurations.

Transmission

PUPI single crossarm fiberglass H-frame on transmission structure

H-Frame Systems

Single and double crossarm H-frame designs. Series 5000 crossarm is a one-to-one dimensional replacement for wood at dramatically lower weight and twice the strength.

PUPI Series 5000 composite structural system for transmission

Composite Structural Systems

Full crossarm, bracing, and structure solutions for transmission-voltage applications.

Supporting Applications

PUPI fiberglass pole top extension installed on wood utility pole

Pole Top Extensions

Extend the height of existing poles or replace damaged pole tops. 5″ x 5″ fiberglass beams with adjustable mounting bracket for 6″ to 10″ pole diameters.
