Reducing our Environmental Impact
Over the next 5 years, installation of fibre optic cabling will exceed all fibre optic cables already deployed to date. This is a significant opportunity to re-think the materials, operations, and processes for the betterment of our industry, customers, and planet.
The traditional fibre drop utilizes around 8200 grams of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) per home. Rexel Utility’s MicroConduit solution reduces the plastics required by an average of 80%. A savings that is equivalent to 120 1L plastic bottles per home.
At Scale, this represents a meaningful opportunity to reduce both the manufacturing, transportation, and use of plastics in the environment around us. This is just another example of how Rexel is promoting responsible practices across our global value chain.
Our Craft & Labour Innovation
Pulling fibre optic cable has traditionally required a significant amount of equipment, time, and labour. At Rexel Broadband, we looked to provide a solution that both simplifies the complexity and investment required, while also allowing for longer and more precise installations.
Traditional installation methods typically take 4 skilled installers 8 hours to pull 1km of fibre optic cable, limited to 200-500m at a time. The same install could be completed by Rexel’s MicroConduit bundle, paired with Airblown fibre installation methods in 30 minutes. A significant reduction in labour hours required while allowing for installation distances of 2km and beyond.
